CMT partnered with our Ocean Athletes,

digging deep to achieve outstanding results!

What is Ocean Athletes?

Our Ocean Athletes programme is for all 10-14-year-olds looking to extend the skills developed in our Junior Surf programme and to compete at Oceans 2020 in Mount Maunganui.

During Ocean Athletes, participants will learn & develop a variety of skills, these will include:

  • Craft - Board paddling - safely moving in and out of the surf, using rips and currents, race tactics

  • Surf Swimming - safely moving in and out of the surf, using rips and currents, race tactics

  • Rescue Events -  skill development to perform a rescue race scenario for a tube and board rescue.

  • Beach Events - sprinting, beach flags and distance running

  • Team Events - Tube and Board rescue & relays

Whilst developing the above skills, our experienced coaches use a framework where participants become familiar with "living" our club values - fun, respect, commitment, encouragement and excellence. This helps them to prepare for Lifeguarding and Senior Surf Sports opportunities the club offers once they are 14.

Ocean Athletes also offers participants an opportunity to compete in junior surf sport events throughout summer, joining other junior athletes from around NZ to share their passion for surf sports. The confidence and teamwork gained in these exciting competitions provides a valuable life experience for Ocean Athlete squad members.

CMT Excavation and Papapmoa SLSC share a vision to have “community connection”. This partnership has created tangible relationships and provides opportunities to nurture this vision.

Program Leaders …

We are incredibly lucky to have an exceptional Oceans Coach and leader in our club,  and community.  Jack Bullock is completely passionate and dedicated to our programs, the development of surf life-saving skills and member development.  This year the programme is also supported by talented Resource Coaches. As a club we are very proud to support leadership pathways for our members, giving opportunities to inspiration and role models to the next generation of athletes. Our younger athletes respond, relate and benefit from the teachings of athletes who 'walk the talk'. Sandra Boubee, is a passionate clubee who will be supporting this group as Oceans Team Manager.  This leadership team are committed to the success of this group and developing a tangible mutual relationship between our sponsor, our athletes, the club and our community.

We are looking forward to a fantastic Ocean Athletes season ahead!
